Childhood Apraxia of Speech (or CAS as we refer to it as), is a type of speech disorder that occurs in children, although it is rather uncommon. It is different than other speech disorders because it is neurologically-based, meaning it has to do with problems with the nervous system.   Proceedings of the Childhood Apraxia of Speech Symposium (pp. 3–12). Carlsbad, CA: Hendrix Foundation. Journal of Speech and Hearing Research, 37(1), – Google Scholar. Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of .

See the Apraxia-KIDS Web site, produced for The Childhood Apraxia of Speech Association by the Hendrix Foundation, as one source of comprehensive, current, and easily accessible information. The two nonprofit groups have just recently released the print proceedings of the Childhood Apraxia of Speech Research Symposium, which is available. Children with Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) Childhood apraxia of speech (CAS) is a neurological motor speech disorder in which a child has difficulty rapidly, accurately, and consistently producing and timing the movement sequences needed to produce speech. CAS is not due to having weak muscles for speech.

Childhood apraxia of speech (CAS) is a subtype of speech sound disorder that impacts speech intelligibility through impaired precision and consistency of speech sounds. CAS is characterized by disrupted transitions between sounds and impairments in prosodic elements of speech such as lexical stress (ASHA, ). Childhood Apraxia of Speech also known as CAS is a very serious communication disorder found early in children. CAS effects the brain though the brain knows what it is trying to say it cannot put it in words for others to hear. There are many different treatments for Childhood Apraxia of Speech.

Apraxia of speech (AOS) is an acquired oral motor speech disorder affecting an individual's ability to translate conscious speech plans into motor plans, which results in limited and difficult speech ability.

By the definition of apraxia, AOS affects volitional (willful or purposeful) movement patterns, however AOS usually also affects automatic speech. RESEARCH SYMPOSIUM | JULYApraxia Kids is dedicated to advancing innovation through research and education. We are thrilled to be hosting the third Research Symposium in in conjunction with the Apraxia Kids National Conference.

This special event is geared towards researchers and will involve a limited audience. Gibbon was an invited presenter at the Childhood Apraxia of Speech Symposium cosponsored by The Hendrix Foundation and Apraxia Kids, and her work has recently been included in a prestigious national award, the Queens Anniversary Prize, for excellence and innovation in research and teaching.).

Written in an empathic style by a parent who "has been there", Speaking of Apraxia offers hope and practical advice for parents of toddlers to teens with this neurologically-based motor speech disorder.

Developmental apraxia of speech (DAS) is a putative diagnostic category for children whose speech errors presumedly (a) differ from the errors of children with developmental speech delay (SD) and (b) resemble the errors of adults with acquired apraxia of speech.

The studies reported in this series (Shriberg, Aram, & Kwiatkowski, a, b. Childhood apraxia of speech, known alternatively as developmental verbal apraxia or dyspraxia, is a condition in which children have difficulty with the controlled production of speech sounds. Criteria for diagnosis vary among clinicians.

58 The first symptoms of apraxia may be a lack of expressive vocabulary despite normal hearing and language. Some additional characteristics of speech production associated with childhood apraxia of speech include: Late development of the child's first words and sounds. A decreased sound inventory (for example, a lack of variety of consonant and vowel sounds expected at a certain age).

Multiple and/or unusual sound errors. Vowel sound errors. Childhood Apraxia of Speech Childhood apraxia of speech (CAS) appears in early childhood but can continue into adulthood.

Children with CAS have problems saying sounds, syllables and words. Although a child with CAS knows what they want to say, their brain struggles to correctly move their lips, jaw and tongue in order to speak.

Incidence of childhood apraxia of speech (CAS) refers to the number of new cases identified in a specified time ence of CAS refers to the number of people who are living with the condition in a given time period. Prevalence estimates of CAS are unreliable due to the inconsistency of diagnostic guidelines (Shriberg, Aram, & Kwiatkowski, ), lack of adequately validated. The underlying nature and diagnosis of childhood apraxia of speech (CAS) still requires clarification.

However, the label 'CAS' or 'suspected CAS' continues to be assigned to a group of children. This report presents findings supporting the hypothesis of a clinically relevant subtype of childhood speech sound disorder, ().
